Health Check for Working in Taiwan

In order to apply for your work permit, you will need a valid medical examination from a recognized public hospital in Taiwan. The check up is simply a part of standard employment procedure. Don’t worry, it is pretty basic and nothing to panic about.

If you are in Taipei, we recommend that you get your medical exam done at Jen Ai (or Ren Ai) Hospital, located near the Zhongxiao Fuxing MRT. Click here for instruction.

General guideline for medical:

1. Bring 3 passport photos and your passport to the hospital with you.
2. Cost varies slightly from hospital to hospital. It is generally between 1,200NT to 1,800NT.
3. Make sure you tell the registration desk that you are here for the foreign teacher’s medical check.
4. Usually hospitals are off during lunch break, so make sure you either get there early in the morning or right after lunch to fill out the paperwork to avoid traffic.
5. Here is what a health check usually entails: Your basic measurements, a blood test, a urine test, and an x-ray.
6. DO NOT drink alcohol or take cold medicine the night before; you may not pass the health check then!
7. You should be able to pick up the results in 7 to 10 days.
